The latest version of WordPress, Version 3.0 is now out of Beta and available for download, or upgrade through your WordPress Dashboard. The new release has many new features, updates and bug fixes. WordPress 3.0 is the thirteenth major release of WordPress which has taken 6 months to complete by over 218 contributors. Major new features include a completely revamped default theme called Twenty Ten.
Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. In addition, WordPress 3.0 now delivers the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation.
Users will love the new lighter interface, the contextual help on every screen, the 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, bulk updates so you can upgrade 15 plugins at once with a single click, and so on. Just watch the official video below for a tour of the new features in WordPress 3.0.
